The taxa selected for active research include the core taxa mandated by the National Science Foundation as part of the National Biodiversity Network. However, surveys of specif taxa are by their very nature "expert limited", and if a scientist is not available for a given taxon, the survey will be deferred. By the same token, if a specialist is available for a non-mandated taxon, we take advantage of these special cases. The following chart includes all the taxa for which at least some survey data from the Catskills is available. A continuing effort is under way to retrieve historical data included in published literature, or associated with specimens in bio-collection institutions.
